In my opinion, something was lost- not improved. What happened to Mary Jane? Certain changes intended to bring realistic growth to both her character and the plot, are sadly ruining the series. Examples: 1) any ambitious broadcast journalist would jump at a chance to hit the NYC national market ; but poor MJ left an Atlanta based cable news network to host AM fluff. The serious but emotionally flawed lady - who lived in an exclusive glass house, throwing critical stones at those she loved, is now a skiddish wreak in an overpriced boutique hotel. Unrecognizable because she abandoned all loyalty to her once valued friends.

The writers even gave her a poor choice of lovers for the season. There are no "good vs tempting bad boys" to lure her to destruction. Both of her NYC relationships are miserable.
